INDEX has announced the promotion of Erik Hutchinson to the position of National Service Manager. This newly created position reflects both the company’s continued commitment to providing superior customer service and the growth of its national network of field service engineers in recent years.

The AGMA Foundation awards scholarships to outstanding engineering students at the Associate/Technical, Undergraduate, and Graduate levels. The scholarship program was created to help fill the need for skilled employees in the gear industry. 

Michigan Metrology, Bruker, and ASM-Detroit are sponsoring a complementary Metal Forming Tribology/Surface Metrology workshop on March 28, 2024, 7:30 am–1:00 pm. 

The new Gear Trainer Program 2024 features new gear technology topics, including gear and transmission design, cutting and hard finishing processes, metrology and gear noise analysis, tools and workholding, as well as software updates and smart production systems. Gear Trainer Webinars take advantage of a mix of different media including live manufacturing and software demonstrations.

National STEM Day, celebrated on November 8th this year, provided a platform for Gear Technology to engage in a conversation with four remarkable women shaping the manufacturing industry: Ruthie Johnston, CEO and Owner of Croix Gear; Robin Olson, Senior Manager, Applications Engineering—Engineered Gear, Regal Rexnord; Michelle Maddox, Sales and Business Development Manager, B&R Machine and Gear Corp.; and Claudia Hambleton, Office Manager and Corporate Treasurer, German Machine Tools of America (GMTA). Each of these women, driven by a shared passion for fostering the next generation of female leaders, revealed their unique journeys and perspectives in this male-dominated field.

Johanna Boland, Strategy and Communications Manager at ANCA, expressed her pride in introducing the first-ever Female Machinist of the Year award for ANCA. “Since joining this industry I have met and worked with some truly intelligent, driven female leaders. However, let’s face it, female machinists are not that common and encouraging diversity can only make our sector stronger and more successful.”

The L.S. Starrett Company, a leading global manufacturer of precision measuring tools and gages, metrology systems and more, announced it opened its doors to students and the community on October 6th this year from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for Manufacturing Day at Starrett Corporate Headquarters, located at 121 Crescent Street, Athol, MA. Manufacturing Day activities nationwide were sponsored by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), an organization that works for the success of more than 12.8 million men and women who make things in America. 

Liebherr recently interviewed Monica Collins, founder of the Women’s Resource Group at Liebherr in the U.S., to learn why the group was formed and what impacts they are making on the women working for Liebherr in the United States.  Collins has been with Liebherr for four years and serves as a human resources generalist assisting the manufacturing, production, and warehouse departments for all their HR support needs.

The Society of Women Engineers today announced the recipients of its annual awards program, a nod to those movers and shakers who are making significant contributions to the STEM community and the advancement of women in engineering. SWE award recipients include professionals, collegiates, and groups from influential businesses, corporations, and universities across the globe.
