GE Energy has been selected to supply up to 660 wind turbines, totaling 990 megawatts of wind-generated electricity for eight projects to be placed online from 2006-2012, according to the company's press release. According to Hydro-Quebec, the agency responsible for the project, the new contracts represent at least 1,000 megawatts of additional wind capacity by 2012. Quebec currently has 113 megawatts of wind capacity. GE Energy will supply the wind turbines to Cartier Wind Energy and Northland Power Ubc./Northland Power Income Fund, the contractors who won the bids for the turbine projects.
