April 20, 2006
The new Maintenance Release 2 (MR2) software from Mastercam introduces new capabilities including multi-axis toolpaths and Mastercam X art.
According to the companys press release, a new engine has been added to the advanced multi-axis toolpaths that provides a customized, streamlined interfaced that is fine-tuned to applications like impellers and turbine blades. Depending on which toolpath is used, Mastercams parameter pages display only those parameters applicable to the specific toolpath type.
Advanced controls for gage checking allow full control of the tool motion. End users are not limited to retracting only along the tool axis. Full roughing capability is also available for the advanced multi-axis machining strategies, including an option for plunge roughing.
Mastercam Art is now available as well. Version 9 Art features and function have been upgraded, including text menus, hot keys, toolbars and help. A new art manager tool tracks art surfaces and operations. Additional innovations include art surface generation, speed improvements, art surface quality improvements, large file processing, art chaining and more.
A new rest-roughing, high-speed machining toolpath provides support for multiple previous operations as well as STL/CAD files; a modified AutoCursor function improves process efficiency; a new toolpath manager display option identifies which geometry belongs to each operation; user-defined feeds and speeds deliver improved machining control and block drilling enhancements are available.
