Sumitomos New Inserts Feature Six Cutting Edges
April 22, 2006
Sumitomo Electrics new 55 degree SumiTurn T-REX triangle insert was launched as a replacement for the 55 degree DNMG. The T-REX features six cutting edges, compared to the four of a conventional DNMG.
According to the companys press release, the T-REXs contoured edges result in rigid clamping within the turning system and provide for more accurate insert indexing.
The insert is available in three grades: AC700 for finishing, stainless steels and roughing cast irons; AC2000 for general purpose machining of steels, stainless steels and cast irons; and AC3000 for heavy roughing and interrupted machining of steels and stainless steels. Maximum cutting depth is 2.5 mm (0.100"). LU chip breakers allow for finish to medium cutting, while GU chipbreakers enable medium to rough cutting.
The T-REX inserts are compatible with the companys T-REX turning toolholder and boring bars.
