Liebherr's RLS 800 Offers High Efficiency Production

Liebherr's RLS 800 rotary loading system is a welcome complement to the existing PHS linear pallet handling system. The system is suitable for users who are looking for a cost-effective entry to high-efficiency production for one to two machines. The system enables spindle utilization of more than 90 percent and is available in two sizes. There is often unused capacity in production of small unit numbers up to lot size 1. The pallet storage capacity of the RLS can be used for automation of up to two machining centers combined with a very small footprint. The layout of manipulator and storage racks makes it possible to achieve up to 24 pallet storage locations in a minimal area – a basic requirement for operation with very few operators or completely unattended. If production requires a larger number of pallets or the storage capacity is not adequate, the storage capacity can be increased with the Liebherr RST storage tower. It is installed on a rotary module and docked to the system in exchange of two shelf units. Up to 18 storage locations per tower can be added with a minimal foot print. The storage tower can also be used to link two individual RLS units to form one combined system. If another machine needs to be added at a later time, this can be done without difficulty. The shape of the storage module allows it to be integrated in different positions, depending on the available space. This is useful particularly for installation in existing production cells where space is limited. The proven Soflex PCS cell controller system is characterized by its user-friendly operation, enabling integrated order planning and offering unrestricted options for expansion. In the basic version, NC program and tool management remain on the machine, while the cell controller manages pallets. This allows operators to continue working in a familiar machine environment. This increases acceptance of the automation system allowing for short commissioning times and a quick production start.
