R&P Metrology GmbH has announced it has recently installed two very large portable measuring machines, one in Asia and one in Europe. The largest mobile CMM inspection machine to-date, the R&P PM 14 28 (Z=1,400 mm, X=2,800 mm) was sold to a customer in Japan last year. This machine represents the continued development of R&P Metrology’s custom design capabilities, and moreover, broadens the application possibilities of portable metrology equipment.

 

Although both machines are transportable within their respective plants, each retain the full spectrum of functionalities as R&P’s original RPG PM 750/1250 metrology system first unveiled in the United States at the AGMA Gear Expo, 2013.

“Based on our information, these two machines are the largest transportable CMM-machines ever been built in the world,” said Hans Rauth, president of R&P Metrology. “The PM 14 28 is being used for checking very large gears with horizontal axis, directly in the production machine. The PM 14 16 which we delivered early this year, checks special profiles on non-gear workpieces."
