Ricardo Delivers Transmissions for Japan Super Formula Series
July 26, 2018
Japan’s Super Formula series – formerly known as Formula Nippon – is the top level of competitive single-seater racing in Japan. The single-make series consists of seven rounds of strongly contested racing on some of the most prestigious Japanese tracks, including the Fuji Speedway, Suzuka and the Twin Ring Motegi. Organized by Japan Race Promotion, the series is contested by 11 teams with two major engine manufacturers (Honda and Toyota) and utilizes a single make Dallara chassis – and a Ricardo transmission.
After successful re-homologation of the vehicle earlier in 2018, Ricardo has now commenced delivery of new transmissions for the 2019 season’s vehicle testing programme. The 2019 Super Formula car is expected to be faster than its predecessor due to revised aerodynamics. Testing will continue through the second half of 2018 with the competing teams receiving their new Ricardo transmissions in January 2019. As in previous years, Ricardo will continue to support Japan Race Promotion with technical support and spares throughout the 2019 season and beyond.
“We are pleased to be able to announce the commencement of deliveries of the 2019 season Japan Super Formula transmission,” commented Ricardo Performance Products MD Mark Barge. “This is just the latest milestone in a long and successful partnership with this prestigious and highly competitive Japanese race series, and demonstrates that our capabilities in design, manufacturing and supply chain management are both global in reach and world-class in quality. We look forward to working with the organizer, Japan Race Promotion, and the teams of Japan Super Formula in what I am sure will be a very successful 2019 season.”
