Verisurf Software, Inc. is featuring a turn-key metrology solution designed for performance engine builders at PRI (Performance Racing Industry) Show, booth #5249 (Mastercam booth), December 8–10, Indiana Convention Center, Indianapolis, Indiana. The solution includes 3D measurement software, hardware, training, and support for reverse engineering, designing, building, tuning, and verifying high-performance engines and components. Engine builders can use the solution to replicate and check engine heads, blocks, pistons, crankshafts, intake and exhaust ports, camshafts, conrods, rocker stands, and more.
Components of the metrology solution include Master3DGage, a portable CMM arm powered by Verisurf software. The Master3DGage is a high precision, 6-Axis, 1.2m portable CMM arm that is compact and shop-floor ready. AC or battery-powered, the Master3DGage can be used on the bench, in the shop, or even right under the hood, if necessary, to check for best fit or confirm clearances before components are produced or installed.
The solution is powered by Verisurf software, which was developed based on features modules. For maximum user flexibility and efficiency, select modules can be combined to create application suites. The engine builder solution includes:
Verisurf is built on the Mastercam platform and can import, modify, and export any CAD file format. The unified user experience can 3D scan and reverse engineer features, surfaces, parts and assemblies, generate CNC programs, backplot and verify tool paths, push files for CNC machining and verify finished part quality against the intelligent 3D CAD model and output quality reports.
An optional laser scanner is also available for added flexibility when reverse-engineering or verifying complex combustion chambers or piston surfaces. The Master3DGage scanner features non-contact 3D laser scanning at a capture rate of 45,000 points per second, a long stand-off distance, and an integrated range finder for ease of use.
Livernois Motorsports & Engineering, Dearborn Heights, MI, provides engineering services, performance products, and niche vehicle design and manufacturing to the OEM and aftermarket automotive industry. “We use the Verisurf solution to help us improve performance in street-legal vehicles, increasing the efficiency and flow of fuel and air, without compromising durability. At the same time, we need to be precise in our designs, manufacturing, and testing to ensure compliance with EPA regulations,” says Dan Millen, President, and CEO of Livernois.
