Chuck Schultz is a licensed engineer, Gear Technology Technical Editor, and Chief Engineer for Beyta Gear Service. He has written the "Gear Talk with Chuck" blog for Gear Technology since 2014.
Do you want to know a secret about every one of our authors? At one point in their lives they decided to step out of their comfort zone and write something for publication. In doing so they were very possibly terrified of making a fool of themselves, of being laughed at, or having a stupid grammar mistake derail the entire project. If you meet one of them, ask them about that first time.
So why did they do it? Why take the risk? Because you feel a need to separate yourself from the crowd? It takes a lot to become “Internet Famous” these days; a byline in our magazine engraves your name in our eternal archive alongside some amazing people. Much more likely is that you enjoy the gear industry and want to make a career out of it. Perhaps you aspire to a bigger, better job within your company — or at a different company. Opportunities have a way of finding their way to people who have separated themselves from the herd.
Another thing our authors have in common is good editing and access to peer reviewers. The staff at Gear Technology will work with you to nurture your idea into an article you are proud to put your name on. Something your employer will reprint or share with customers. Don’t have anyone “in house” to do the peer review? We have a team of volunteer technical editors who will help.
Some of those technical editors would like nothing more than to help train up their successors. As a group we are not getting any younger.
