Sandvik Introduces Next Generation of Insert Grades
May 1, 2006
The GC1030, GC4240 and GC4225 from Sandvik Coromant were designed to enhance productivity in steel milling operations.
The GC1030 and GC4240 have been optimized for shoulder milling but also perform in other milling applications.
The GC1030 works best with difficult materials or in unstable conditions, such as long overhands with vibration problems. Improved wear resistance results from the PVD coating, according to the companys press release.
The GC4240 includes a new substrate and CVD coating for higher security and trouble-free machining. This grade has been designed for shoulder milling and steel milling operations where high metal removal rate is important.
The GC4225 is designed for steel turning and has the capacity to adapt to variations in workpiece material and operational demands towards the tougher end of applications. Application areas from low carbon steel to high-alloy steel are feasible. Improved coating adherence has elevated the edge-line security of inserts. This makes it possible to use a P25 grade throughout a wider area, which is advantageous for machine shops with varying one-off component production but without losing the ability for higher metal-removal-rate optimization for large volume machining.
