Cincinnati Machines New Five-Axis HMC Optimized for Titanium Machining

Cincinnati Machines new MEGA5-800 five-axis horizontal machining center utilizes the basic MEGA twin ball screw-driven axes configuration in X-Y-Z, the basic MEGA B-axis table and a compact A-axis tilt spindle with 180 degree sweep.
According to the companys press release, this combination of features provides precision, five-sided machining capability for part processing as well as full five-axis contouring for processing highly complex parts.
At IMTS, Cincinnati Machine plans to demonstrate the machines capability for efficient machining of titanium. Cincinnati Machine equipped the MEGA5 with a combination of features yielding 50 $B!&(B100% more throughput compared to conventional processes.
The MEGA 5 offers 1,425 mm of X-axis travel, 1,325 mm of Y-axis travel and 1,265 mm of Z-axis travel. Part sizes up to 1,300 mm in diameter and 2,000 mm high, weighing 2,200 kg can be accommodated. The machine has a feed rate of 60 m/min and an acceleration/deceleration rate of 1 G.
The machine is available in configurations suitable for cutting a variety of materials. The XT spindle configuration is intended for hard metal applications and is available with a geared spindle providing a base speed of 375 rpm and a maximum speed of 6,000 rpm. HSK 100A and ANSI 50 versions are duty rated at 45 kW/1,146 N-m and continuous rated at 37kW/942 N-m.
The MEGA5 AP spindle package is intended primarily for aluminum workpieces. A choice of two high-speed spindles is available, one for continuous operation at 50 kW (67 hp) and the other rated at 30 kW (40 hp). Both feature HSK63A tooling interface and are capable of 24,000 rpm operation.
