The new HG+ series from alpha gear drives Inc. is a low-backlash hypoid gearhead that offers performance similar to a planetary gearhead.
The low-backlash hypoid gearhead has a hollow-shaft, right-angle design. According to the companys press release, the hypoid technology drives the new gearhead with ratios of 3:1 to 10:1 in a single stage. Alpha gear adds that constant torsional backlash is guaranteed throughout the entire service life and that the new gearhead produces one-third of the noise of conventional right-angle gearheads.
The gearhead is suitable for servo applications, including packaging machines, loading/unloading robots, palletizers, the 7th and 8th axes of industrial robots, printing presses and flatbed machines.
The HG+ is available in five sizes with acceleration torques up to 640 N-m. Torsional backlash is greater than four arc-minutes with a deflecting torque equivalent to 2% of the acceleration torque. The gearhead comes with lifelong lubrication and one oil quantity regardless of mounting position.
The maximum speed is 6,000 rpm. Nominal speed exceeds 3,000 rpm, depending on output torque.
