May 31, 2007
With a work envelope of 100 mm x 100 mm, Drake's GS:TEM mini three-axis thread grinder is aimed at higher volume, precision threaded parts manufacturers in the cutting tool, automotive, aerospace and medical equipment industries.
According to a company press release, the first mini was recently shipped to an Asian manufacturer of taps and other cutting tools. The machine was equipped with fast cycling rocker- style magazine autoloader that was configured to grind taps M10 size or smaller.
The grinder comes equipped with a diamond roll contour dresser for dressing complex topping and non-topping wheel forms including full radius and gothic arch, acme with chest and root radii or chamfers as well as 60 degrees, Whitworth, ISO, buttress and other thread forms.
Drake says the machine works best for grinding small taps, thread rolls, thread gages, worms, ballscrews, e-steering components, aerospace fasteners and surgical bone screws.
Additionally, the mini comes equipped with PartSmart menu-driven software with customer's parts pre-programmed into the system. No programming knowledge is needed as the operator simply follows the screen prompts and enters the value.
The Mini has a cell-friendly footprint and is 1.2 m wide x 1.8 m deep and weighs 3,000kg.
