Schunk Offers Quick Change Pallet Technology
April 21, 2020
For years, quick-change pallet modules have been considered an efficient means of optimizing set-up time for production. Universal standard clamping modules in different sizes enable a virtually unlimited variety of clamping solutions. Schunk is now going one step further: modules for specific industries or fields of application apply the advantages of the technology to new areas of application – from the aviation industry and additive manufacturing to tool and moldmaking.
Whether classic workshop production, small-batch production, fully automated 24/7 operation or toolmaking – the VERO-S modular program from Schunk already provides valuable services in many applications. It combines the Schunk VERO-S with a multitude of other clamping devices to create a standardized, modular system for high-efficiency workpiece clamping.
Starting with the different machine types, Schunk specialists have developed a system to simplify the selection of the right modules. The program includes over 1,000 possible combinations. It ranges from highly effective module height extensions, through multi-sided tombstones, clamping pallets, pneumatic and hydraulic clamping force blocks, double and multi clamping vises, to jaw chucks, magnetic clamping solutions, modules for lathe machining and for automated machine loading. This technology allows mounting, positioning, and clamping of single clamping devices, workpiece pallets or workpieces equipped with clamping pins in the machine within seconds and with reference precision.
The actual set-up process takes place outside of the machine during the machining operation. This increases output, reduces costs, and eliminates operating errors during the clamping process. With robot couplings of series VERO-S NSR for highly-efficient, robot-supported palette changing on machine tools in the weight class from 1 kg to 1,000 kg, as well as with the worldwide broadest standard gripping component program on the market, SCHUNK also enables unique synergies between gripping and clamping. The program includes quick-change technologies specifically for aviation, 3D-printing, automated machine loading applications and more.
