Irving Laskin:1924-2009

Gear Technology contributor and author Irving Laskin passed away August 27, according to AGMA. Born August 9, 1924, Mr. Laskin was an AGMA Lifetime Achievement Award winner and a gear consultant in fine pitch and plastic gearing applications in automotive, medical, home and office equipment.

Mr. Laskin was active in numerous AGMA technical committees over the past 25 years, serving as chairman of the Fine Pitch Gearing, Plastics Gearing and Powder Metallurgy Gearing committees. He was a member of the Technical Division Executive Committee.

The plastics and powder metallurgy divisions within AGMA exist in part because of the role Mr. Laskin took in helping to create the active technical committees in these segments.

Surviving family members include his son Joshua, daughter Rebekah and granddaughter Anya as well as his sister, Molly Bazel, and brother, Meyer. Services were held August 30 at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Ridgewood, NY.

AGMA has established the Irving Laskin Memorial Education Fund, with permission from the family. The fund will go towards scholarships for students in mechanical engineering and gearing. Donations can be made to the AGMA Foundation with "Irv Laskin Memorial Education Fund" in the memo line. The family has requested people contribute to the fund in lieu of sending flowers.
