Dr. Chao Sun was a Technical Lead working within The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centres (AMRC) Machining Group. He is an experienced post doctoral researcher and has been working at the AMRC for 5 years. Before he joined the AMRC, he did his postdoctoral research on machining dynamics at the University of British Columbia in Canada. He joined the AMRC as a Project Engineer working on robotic machining dynamics. Later, he worked as a Technical Lead in machining dynamics. He and his colleague developed the power skiving force simulation model and helped to optimise the power skiving process.
Gear skiving offers great opportunities for production with step-changing productivity, particularly for internal gears, whilst offering high-quality finishing capabilities and being applicable on a 5-axis machine tool with its inherent flexibility and multifunctionality.
